It is learned that Ayan Sharma, the central organizing secretary of the Bangladesh Awami Cultural League, used to introduce himself as the advisory editor of a newspaper called ‘Chittagong Pratidin’. Police investigation revealed that Ayan Sharma is known to be an extortionist posing as a ‘journalist’. In 2004, he was arrested on charges of extortion from a police ASI. At that time, he gave a bond to the leaders of the Chittagong Journalists’ Union that he would never introduce himself as a journalist again. In 2023, two investigating officers of the Intelligence Department of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police also gave the same report. Calling Ayan Sharma a destroyer of religious harmony and an enemy of the country and society, Chittagong Metropolitan Member Secretary of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Welfare Front, Bappi Dey, told Aamer Soomi, I think Ayan Sharma is working with a special purpose. Because he is only working against the traditionalists. He is threatening the leaders of religious organizations and protesters in various ways. His divisive activities have created widespread anger among the Sanatani community. He said, Ayan Sharma himself is an Awami League office bearer; but he is misleading people by labeling BNP leaders and workers as Awami.<\/p>\n
Demanding that Ayan be brought under the law, Palash Sen, Deputy Reception Secretary of the Janmashtami Udjavan Parishad Central Committee, said, “I do not hold any political office; but people are being misled by labeling me as Awami.”<\/p>\n
Alleging that Rath Yatra and other religious organizations are creating division, Jago Hindu Parishad advisor Milan Sharma said, “Ayan is killing the personal character of people of his own religious community. His activities have created widespread anger among the Sanatani community.” He also said that the Sanatani community has boycotted Ayan.
