A Hindu woman has filed a rape case against Saidul Islam, a lineman of the Rural Electricity Association in Nesarabad, Pirojpur. The case alleges that he had physical relations with her on the promise of marriage and conversion, and later broke that promise.
\nThe victim filed a rape case with the Nesarabad (Swarupkathi) police station on Sunday night (August 2). Accused Md. Saidul Islam Siraj works as a lineman at the Karfa Bazar Rural Electricity Sub-Office in the upazila. According to the details of the case, the plaintiff runs a tea shop in Karfa Bazar. The woman developed a love affair with Saidul Islam Siraj, who works at the Rural Electricity Sub-Office next to the shop, on the way to and from the shop.
\nThe plaintiff has claimed that Saidul Islam had sexual relations with her multiple times after promising to marry her after converting her. The statement said that Siraj entered her shop on the night of July 11 and had sexual intercourse again.
\nLater, when the matter came to light, Siraj refused to marry her. Then on Sunday night, the woman locked Siraj in her house with the help of locals. Later, Saidul Islam was freed with the help of some locals. However, there were allegations in the area that a huge amount of money was exchanged to free Saidul.
\nMeanwhile, the accused lineman Md. Saidul Islam Siraj denied the rape allegation. He said that a gang was conspiring to use the woman to obtain financial benefits and frame her.
\nMd. Jahangir Hossain, an officer of the Korfa Bazar Rural Electricity Sub-Office, said that the locals had locked Siraj in a room over a women-related issue. Later, local mediation was tried, but the matter could not be resolved in the end. Md. Mehedi Hasan, OC of Nesarabad (Swarupkathi) Police Station, said that the victim woman in this incident has filed a case with the police station as the plaintiff.
