Despite using batons and tear gas, Delhi Police could not stop the Lok Sabha campaign of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). The protesters broke the police barricades and reached Parliament on Monday afternoon.
\nIndian media reported that the main gate of Parliament was closed due to security reasons as the procession of protesters approached. According to the report, the closed-door session of Parliament has started from today (20). The Prime Minister, Union Cabinet members and MPs from various parties are present in Parliament.
\nIn this situation, Delhi Police was already alert about the Lok Sabha campaign of CJP. To disperse the protesters on the way to Parliament, the police lathi-charged near Shram Shakti Bhavan. Tear gas shells were also fired. However, a section of the protesters continued to move towards Parliament. The police detained several protesters. They were taken away in buses. CJP leaders have alleged that the police acted repressively in the peaceful protest.
\nToday, thousands of students and activists gathered at Jantar Mantar for a long march on the opening day of the monsoon session of the Indian Parliament. Delhi Police cordoned off the area with barricades to prevent the protesters from marching. Hundreds of security personnel were deployed.
\nIn the morning, police stopped them from marching from the protest site in central Delhi towards Parliament. Violent clashes broke out with police when they tried to break the security barricades set up at various places. Several protesters and police personnel were injured.
\nAccording to Indian media reports, about 20,000 people (mostly students and youth) participated in the event on Monday.
\nIn a statement, Delhi Police said that the situation was being handled professionally. Law enforcement agencies have urged the general public not to pay heed to any rumours.
\nAbhijit Deepak, 30, formed the CJP in May in protest against a comment by the Chief Justice of India and the party quickly gained widespread popularity on social media and support from opposition political parties, artists and civil society.
