Major (retd) Muzaffar Hossain, accused in the assassination case of late President Ziaur Rahman, has been handed over to the army for trial under martial law. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said that his trial will be conducted through a General Court Martial. He made this comment while visiting the BGB headquarters in Peelkhana on Monday (July 20) afternoon.
\nThe Home Minister said that earlier, other associates of Muzaffar Hossain were tried in a military court. There is some important evidence in that trial. In the light of the verdicts of those who were previously convicted or sentenced to death in this case, the General Court Martial will consider whether there is any evidence in his case or not. A decision will also be taken then whether it will be legal to charge him anew under civil law in the same case.
\nIncidentally, Major (retd) Muzaffar Hossain has been brought to Dhaka for further interrogation. He was brought to Dhaka on Sunday in a military helicopter on government orders.
\nOn the other hand, regarding illegal entry, the Home Minister said, “We have not allowed a single person to enter Bangladesh illegally. With the help of our Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the people, we have been able to successfully prevent it so far. We have taken immediate action against some illegal infiltrators.” The Home Minister said, “If there are any Bangladeshi citizens in neighboring countries, they will have to be listed as per the rules of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If their nationality is verified and proven true, they will be brought back to their country through proper legal process.” Apart from this, no one will be allowed to enter here in any other way.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
