\nThe horrific accident occurred in Ciudad Rodrigo, a historic walled city of about 12,000 inhabitants in the province of Salamanca, bordering Portugal. Two others were injured in the incident, the country’s emergency services confirmed.
\nHundreds of people had gathered around the Arbol Gordo fountain in the city center to celebrate Spain’s historic World Cup victory. Just then, the top of the monument collapsed and fell on people below, causing the casualties.
