The death toll from the powerful earthquake that struck Venezuela nearly three weeks ago has risen to 4,734 and another 16,740 have been injured, according to a government report released on Tuesday (July 14). According to the report, two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale struck within a minute of each other on June 24. They caused widespread destruction in the coastal state of La Guaira.
\nIn the latest information published on Telegram, the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, said that at least 4,734 people were killed and 16,740 were injured in the disaster. He also noted that most of the injured have been discharged from hospital after treatment.
\nMeanwhile, according to the United Nations, about 50,000 people are still missing after the earthquake. Hundreds of buildings collapsed during the powerful tremors, leaving many people trapped under the rubble. Rescue workers are still searching through the rubble, but the actual number of missing and injured is expected to rise.<\/p>\n
