Chittagong-2 constituency and Fatikchhari MP Sarwar Alamgir said, I have been made a defaulter in front of the nation. At this time, he said, in the last 4 months, the people of the area have been deprived of various things by not allowing me to come to the National Parliament.
\nHe said this while participating in the Parliament session for the first time on Tuesday (July 14) and delivering his welcome speech. Earlier, after the hearing on July 2, the court declared his candidacy valid on July 9. He said, I have been made a defaulter. I have been made a defaulter in front of the nation. In the last 4 months, I have not been allowed to come to the National Parliament. The people of my area have been deprived of various things. There was no bank case against me. I have come here as a winner for the second time. The people of Fatikchhari have gifted my seat to Tarique Rahman by voting for me.
\nHe also said that those who talk about justice are knocking on the door of the High Court. The votes of the candidates who talk about justice are less than half of mine. If the people are the source of power, then why did I have to win from the High Court again? I ask this question.
\nIt is worth noting that on February 12 of this year, the Election Commission canceled the candidacy of BNP candidate Sarwar Alamgir from the Chittagong-2 constituency in the 13th National Parliament election on charges of loan default. Sarwar Alamgir filed a writ petition in the High Court to regain his candidacy before the election. After the initial hearing of the writ, the High Court issued a rule on January 27, allowing Sarwar Alamgir to participate in the election and ordering the allocation of the ‘paddy sheaf’ symbol.
\nHowever, Jamaat candidate from the same constituency Muhammad Nurul Amin filed an appeal against the High Court order. He filed this appeal alleging loan default. The Appellate Division issued an order on February 3, granting permission to appeal. The order stated that if he (Sarowar Alamgir) is successful as a candidate in the election, the publication of the election results of the constituency concerned (as applicable to him as a candidate) will be suspended until the final disposal of the appeal in this regard.
\nAfter the leave to appeal was granted, the Jamaat candidate filed a regular appeal on March 31. After hearing this appeal, the Appellate Division issued an order on June 16. In the order to dispose of the appeal, the Appellate Division asked the High Court to dispose of the rule expeditiously, if possible within two weeks. It was mentioned that the order of the Appellate Division of February 3 will remain in force until the rule is disposed of. That is, the publication of the results of Sarwar Alamgir as a candidate in the election (as applicable to him as a candidate) will be suspended until the rule is disposed of.
\nAfter the order of the Appellate Division on June 21, the writ was placed on the agenda of the High Court for final hearing. On that day, the court fixed a date for the hearing of the rule.
