The government is planning to undertake a modern project to keep the \u2018Nawapara River Port\u2019 in Abhaynagar Upazila of Jessore operational and permanently resolve the navigation crisis of the Bhairab River. Currently, a feasibility study is underway in this regard through a consulting firm.
\nToday, Monday (July 13), in the session of the National Parliament, Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam said this in response to a written question from Jessore-4 MP Md. Golam Rasul. The session was presided over by Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal.
\nIn a written reply, the Shipping Minister said that the conservation dredging of the Bhairab River on the Khulna-Nawapara waterway has already been completed and silt has been removed from the main channel. As a result, the navigation of ships on that route is currently smooth and safe.
\nIn addition, after identifying the navigation crisis of various ghats in the Nawapara River Port area, necessary dredging activities are underway. He further said that Abhaynagar (Nawapara) river port is an important commercial hub in the southwestern region of the country. To maintain the port’s viability, BIWTA is carrying out regular maintenance and dredging activities under the revenue budget.
\nThe government has plans to permanently resolve the navigation crisis on the Bhairab River, construct a modern jetty and a workers’ shed to transform the port into a full-fledged modern river port. For this purpose, the process of feasibility study through a consulting firm is currently underway. After the feasibility study, a full-fledged project will be formulated to modernize the waterway and ensure safe navigation, the minister said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
