\nHe also said that the process has already started from the government side, the process we have with any country in terms of diplomacy is going on and if any accused surrenders, then whatever is necessary will be done according to the existing laws of Bangladesh.
\nIn response to a question regarding Sheikh Hasina’s surrender, Shama Obaid said, “Is she an Indian citizen? So what she does or does not do at the police station there is her personal matter, it is none of my business. Where an accused surrenders is entirely her personal matter and it is none of the business of the government here. Whether she surrenders at the Bangladesh embassy abroad or comes to Bangladesh, the process will be the same, she will have to go to jail, she will have to face the punishment that she will get.” In response to another question, the State Minister said, “It is not for the Bangladesh government to take into account what an accused says. According to the laws of Bangladesh, a person has already been sentenced. The process that we have is already underway. There is no opportunity to start a new process.” Protests erupted in India against the statements made by Sheikh Hasina during the tenure of the interim government. When asked whether the current government will inform India about this, Shama Obaid said, “You have nothing to say by making a statement.
