Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered utmost vigilance and coordination to protect lives and properties of people affected by waterlogging caused by heavy rains. He gave these instructions in a virtual meeting with the country’s eight divisional commissioners, DIGs, deputy commissioners, police superintendents and civil surgeons at the Secretariat today (July 12).
\nThe Prime Minister said that protecting people’s lives and properties is the highest priority of the administration in this disaster situation. She directed the concerned to quickly deliver relief materials, dry food, pure water, baby food, medicines and medical services to the affected people. The Prime Minister also emphasized on ensuring a safe environment, sanitation, electricity and communication systems in the shelters, as well as ensuring special healthcare for women, children, the elderly, the disabled and pregnant women.
\nInstructing law enforcement agencies to be on the highest alert, Tarique Rahman said, \u201cWe must ensure that no unscrupulous group takes advantage of the disaster situation to indulge in theft, robbery, hoarding, embezzlement of relief or any other criminal activities.\u201d He also stressed on transparency, accountability and prioritizing the real victims in relief distribution. Meanwhile, while the waterlogging situation in Chittagong has improved, field-level administrative officials said that the situation has deteriorated due to the damage to the Manu River embankment in Sylhet and there is a threat of fresh waterlogging in Rangpur.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
