Textile and Jute and Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has said that several more institutions will be transferred to the private sector this year. He said that the government wants to create employment by reopening the closed factories. He said this at an agreement signing ceremony to reopen the closed jute factories on Thursday (July 9) morning.
\nThe minister said that since state assets are lying idle, they have now become liabilities, the government is working to turn them into assets again. In addition, the private sector has been called upon for new investments. The minister further said that the government will provide necessary support in this regard.
\nRegarding the decline in exports of the ready-made garment industry, he said that garment exports have not picked up pace due to the war. In addition, the slowdown in world trade due to US tariffs is also affecting Bangladesh’s garment exports. If the ongoing global problems are resolved, garment exports will increase.
\nAn agreement was signed with the TK Group on Thursday morning. According to the agreement, 14.80 acres of land of Bangladesh Jute Mills in Narsingdi has been leased to TK Group. The company will invest Tk 1,500 crore in it. This will create employment opportunities for 3,000 workers.
