Lebanese Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said peace in Lebanon is not possible without Iran playing a stabilizing role. He made the remarks in a meeting with Mohammad Fanish, a top leader of the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, in Tehran on Sunday (July 5). Fanish was in Tehran to attend the funeral of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
\nGhalibaf said the recent conflict between Iran and the US-Israeli conflict has created instability in the West Asian region, especially in Lebanon. He claimed that this incident proves that peace in the region is only possible through Iran’s role. He added that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the US last month included clear conditions to stop aggression against Iran-backed resistance groups, which include Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
\nGhaliboff said that the talks focused on Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He added that he himself led the Iranian negotiating team that reached the agreement. He added that Hezbollah’s role in the recent conflict was a “historic turning point”, proving that Iran’s ties with the resistance groups are “unbreakable and deep”.
\nOn the other hand, Hezbollah leader Muhammad Fanesh said that his organization considers itself part of Iran’s Islamic revolution. He said that relations between Iran and Hezbollah have always been brotherly and are bound by religious and revolutionary bonds. Fanesh claimed that the recent ceasefire in Lebanon was possible due to Iranian intervention. According to him, if this path continues in the future, the conflict could end.<\/p>\n
