A legal notice has been sent to AB Party Secretary General Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad, asking him to publicly apologize within 72 hours for making objectionable and defamatory comments about Dhaka University (DU). It also demands that he deposit Tk 100 crore as compensation in DU’s research fund.
\nThe notice was sent by Tanmoy Kumar Saha, an alumnus of the 33rd batch of the Law Department of Dhaka University and a lawyer of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, on Thursday. The notice was sent to the Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University and Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad.
\nThe notice said that on July 1, at a discussion meeting titled ‘Awakening of Bengali Muslims and Dhaka University’ at the DUCSU office, Barrister Fuad made derogatory, hateful and defamatory comments about graduates, teachers and students of Dhaka University. He has questioned the contribution of Dhaka University graduates in the last 50 to 70 years, blamed them for national losses and made hateful and divisive comments against the university’s teachers.
\nThe notification further stated that these comments have tarnished the national and international reputation of Dhaka University and have created anger among the general public, including former and current students. Meanwhile, the notification has called on the concerned government authorities to take necessary legal and administrative action against Fuad. It has also asked the AB Party Secretary General to unconditionally withdraw his statement within 72 hours and publicly apologize through mainstream electronic, print and social media.
\nIt was also mentioned that as exemplary and punitive compensation for tarnishing the historical reputation of Dhaka University, Tk 100 crore will be deposited in the Dhaka University Research Fund, so that the money can be used for educational development and national prosperity. The notice also states that if the demands are not implemented within the stipulated 72 hours, a writ petition (public interest litigation) will be filed in the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh in the public interest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
