River erosion has increased in Tangail as the water level of Jamuna has increased. Hundreds of structures and cropland in five upazilas of the district are being submerged in the river due to the Jamuna. Local public representatives have reported extensive damage. The affected people have complained that the suffering is increasing due to poor prevention measures. However, the Water Development Board has fulfilled its responsibility by announcing that it will take measures to prevent the ebb and flow as usual.
\nMeanwhile, since last Tuesday, severe river erosion has started in Tangail’s Nagarpur upazila’s Selimabad Paschimpara and on the Tarakandi road in Bhuiyanpur upazila. Houses and trees have disappeared into the riverbed in the blink of an eye. The Bhuiyanpur-Tarakandi Jamuna dam is also under threat.
\nMeanwhile, numerous families in five upazilas of the district have become destitute due to the continuous ebb and flow day and night. Some are living under the open sky, while others have taken shelter in the houses of relatives. These helpless people who have lost everything are living an inhumane life, but have not received any help. The common people have expressed strong anger over the quality of work of the Water Development Board.
\nHowever, the Water Development Board is reluctant to accept these allegations. Officials have said that erosion control work is underway in the vulnerable areas of the Jamuna. However, without giving any assurance, the affected people have demanded a change in the fate of the char residents by constructing a permanent dam as soon as possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
