On the occasion of the second anniversary of the July Uprising, the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) has launched a month-long ‘July Awakening Program for Nation Building’. The program began today, Wednesday (July 1), by visiting the mass grave of the martyrs of the July Uprising in Rayerbazar in the capital. At this time, the party’s top leaders paid tribute to the martyrs and called for the implementation of the declared goals of July.
\nAfter visiting the mass grave, NCP convener and opposition chief whip Md. Nahid Islam said, “It has been two years since the July Uprising. After the July Uprising, I said that we want to build a non-discriminatory democratic new Bangladesh through the trial and reform of the July genocide. We have not yet got that Bangladesh, the Bangladesh we wanted.
\nHe expressed dissatisfaction with the recent verdict against former minister Hasanul Haque Inu in the tribunal, saying that the people of the country, the families of the martyrs and the injured protesters did not get justice in this verdict. He alleged that Hasanul Haque Inu directly cooperated in the killings committed during the July uprising. Therefore, he commented that the 10-year prison sentence in each of the three cases announced against him was not enough. The NCP convener appealed to the state in the High Court and demanded a harsher punishment. At the same time, he demanded that the accused in the July murder and other discussed murders, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who are abroad, be brought back to the country and brought to trial. He said that completing the trial and implementing the verdict will be the way to establish real justice. Nahid Islam said that the implementation of the July Charter, structural reforms and the implementation of the referendum verdict are still among the main demands of the NCP. He alleged that the promises made in the elections to reform and create a state without discrimination have not yet been reflected in reality. Therefore, the main theme of this year’s ‘July Awakening’ program is the trial of the genocide and the implementation of state reforms.
\nHe urged the government not to just celebrate the July Uprising officially; rather, the government’s position must be clarified by implementing reforms as per the expectations of the people. At the same time, he said, the July Uprising National Museum is not being opened. The July Uprising National Museum must be opened by August 5, otherwise the people will open the museum themselves.
\nAt this time, Nahid Islam respectfully remembered the contributions of about 1,400 martyrs, injured protesters, anti-discrimination student movement activists, teachers, workers, lawyers, journalists, cultural activists, scholars, expatriates and people of all classes and professions who directly and indirectly cooperated in this movement. NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Chief Organizer of the Southern Region Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Organizer of the Northern Region Sarjis Alam, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, leaders of Dhaka Metropolitan North and South, and party leaders and workers at various levels were also present at the event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
