450 million taka has been allocated for conducting a feasibility study for the proposed ‘Second Padma Bridge’ between Daulatdia in Rajbari and Paturia Ghat in Manikganj. Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury informed this in the National Parliament today (June 24). The Finance Minister said this in response to a question from MP Nurunnisa Siddiqui under the chairmanship of Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram. The question and answer session was tabled.
\nThe Finance Minister said that the Paturia-Daulatdia Second Padma Bridge construction project is one of the projects promised in the election manifesto of the current government. Currently, the process of appointing a consulting firm to conduct a feasibility study for the construction of this bridge is underway under the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, an organization under the Directorate of Bridges.
\nAmir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that although there is no specific allocation for the construction of the bridge in the Annual Development Program (ADB) for the fiscal year 2026-27, the Bangladesh Bridge Authority has allocated 45 million taka in its own budget for the feasibility study. In addition, the project has been recommended to be included in the ADB’s list of unauthorized new projects (green leaf). Stating that the Second Padma Bridge is very important for connecting the southwestern part of the country, he said that the next steps will be taken after the study is completed.
