\nLosing three wickets for nil is not a very common occurrence in the history of ODIs. This is only the fourth time in international cricket. Earlier, Pakistan and Bangladesh had been in such an embarrassing situation twice. This time Australia joined that list. Bangladesh took the field with the opportunity to secure the series with one match remaining. On the other hand, Australia must win this match to survive in the series. Both teams have made one change to their XI in this important match.
\nPacer Riley Meredith has returned to the Australian XI. This pacer, who is playing ODIs for the first time since 2021, has replaced the debutant pace bowling all-rounder Liam Scott. Soumya Sarkar has returned to the Bangladesh XI in place of Saif Hasan. The 33-year-old left-handed batsman last played an ODI against New Zealand in April.
\nBangladesh started to show their dominance by bowling after losing the toss. Taskin Ahmed got his wicket with the first ball in the previous match. This time too, he struck in the first over. Matthew Short released a ball outside the off-stump. But when the ball went in and blew the stumps, he was forced to return for a duck after playing just four balls. This is the third consecutive ODI in which the Australian opener was dismissed for a duck.
\nMustafizur Rahman struck twice in the next over. Cooper Conley was caught outside the off-stump and dismissed by wicketkeeper Liton Das’s gloves. He got the bitter taste of a golden duck. Then Matt Renscher suffered the same fate with the last ball of the over. He was also caught by Liton’s gloves and dismissed for a duck.
\nAustralia was in dire straits after losing three wickets for a duck in just two overs. The controlled bowling of the Bangladeshi pacers made it difficult for the visitors to score runs. Later, left-arm pacer Mustafiz took another wicket. Captain Josh Inglis and veteran batsman Alex Carey tried to put up a fight. Mustafiz broke that resistance by dismissing Carey. The Aussie batsman played an innings of 13 runs.
