To meet the country’s energy needs, the government will import fuel oil worth about Tk 17,330 crore in three months (June-August). These fuel oils will be imported through international open tenders. These will include gas oil, jet fuel, furnace oil and gasoline.
\nThese proposals were approved at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement held at the Secretariat on Wednesday (June 10) under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury. It is learned that Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) under the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources will import these fuel oils through international open tenders.
\nAccording to the approved proposal, a total of Tk 17,330 crore worth of fuel oil has been opened under four packages. Out of this, Unipec Singapore is getting the largest purchase order, worth about Tk 7,673 crore. On the other hand, Vittal Asia is going to get a supply order worth around Tk 7,461 crore through two packages.
\nThese oils are being purchased as part of a regular import program to maintain normal fuel supply for power generation, industry and transportation.
