The US military has again attacked Iran after it shot down a US Apache helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz. In response, Iran launched simultaneous strikes on US military bases in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan.
\nThe Jordanian army said it had intercepted and shot down five missiles fired from Iran. Quoting locals, Dawn News reported that the country’s military said the missiles were aimed at the Al-Azraq area.
\nThe country’s armed forces said that all five missiles were destroyed by activating defense systems. However, when the missiles were shot down, their debris or parts of the debris fell on Jordanian territory. There were no reports of casualties or major damage. The country’s military sources said that the air defense system has been put on high alert to control the situation.
\nMeanwhile, the Kuwaiti army said that its air defense system is currently actively working against “enemy” targets. The Kuwaiti army’s general staff said in a post on social media that the air defense system is currently detecting and intercepting enemy targets. No details about the origin of these targets were released.
\nHowever, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that it had attacked multiple targets at a US base in Jordan. Citing Iran’s state news agency IRNA, the IRGC said that its forces destroyed four important targets at a US air base in the Al-Azraq area. It also claimed that there was an F-35 fighter jet base and a command and control center there. The Iranian military said that the attack was carried out using long-range missiles.
\nAt 5 p.m. local time on Tuesday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) launched a defensive strike against Iran. The operation was launched on the orders of the president in response to the downing of a US military Apache helicopter. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that the response to the attack would be harsh. The same day, in a post on the social media platform X, Araghchi said, “The US has tried to test our resolve after failing on the battlefield. Our powerful armed forces will not leave without responding to any attack or threat.” In the post, he also warned, “If you want to be safe, leave our territory.” Earlier on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump declared that the US must respond in response to the Iranian attack. In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, he claimed that Iran had shot down a sophisticated US Apache helicopter patrolling the Strait of Hormuz the previous night. Trump said, “It is inevitable for the United States to respond to this attack.” Meanwhile, the US media outlet Axios quoted Barak Ravid as saying that US forces had attacked several Iranian air defense systems and radar installations located near the Strait of Hormuz. However, a US official told CNN that Washington did not believe the attack would disrupt ongoing talks to end the war.
