Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku said that the government has taken steps to ensure uninterrupted and quality power supply for all by 2030.
\nThe minister said this in a written reply to a question from Nilufar Chowdhury Monir, a member of parliament from the women’s constituency, in the session of the National Assembly today (June 7). Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed presided over the session. Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku said that the current grid-based power generation capacity is 28,919 megawatts.
\nThe demand for electricity in the country is increasing day by day. To meet the growing demand for electricity, the government is emphasizing on power generation from renewable energy as well as fossil fuels. A total of 32 power plants with a generation capacity of 7,928 megawatts are under construction in the country. In addition, the tender process is underway for a total of 15 renewable energy-based power plants with a combined generation capacity of 665 MW. The power plants are expected to be commissioned in phases by 2030. The minister said that 100 percent of the country’s population has already been brought under the power supply.
