After countless treatments, a son was finally born after 16 years, which brightened the parents’ lap. He was named Sajid Al Nahyan. Measles took the child away from them. Even after going to seven hospitals, the family could not save their beloved child.
\nSeven-month-old Sajid died while undergoing treatment in Dhaka on Sunday (May 17). He is the son of Dubai-based businessman Parvez Ahmed Sumon of Singraish village in Munshirhat union of Chauddagram upazila of Comilla. The child’s maternal uncle AFM Russell Patwary confirmed the matter.
\nAccording to family sources, when Sajid started having fever, cold and cough on April 14, he was given antibiotics at a private hospital in Chauddagram Bazar on the advice of a specialist doctor and he recovered somewhat. Then, when he fell ill again on May 12, he was admitted to Chauddagram Upazila Health Complex. After two days of treatment there, his condition did not improve, so he was admitted to Dhaka Children’s Hospital, National Health Care Hospital and later to Tejgaon Inpulse Hospital. After tests there, Sajid was diagnosed with measles. Sajid died while undergoing treatment yesterday morning. Sajid’s maternal uncle Russell Patwary quoted Inpulse Hospital’s doctor Mahbubur Rahman as saying that children who are given high doses of antibiotics first recover physically and then become weak again. That is why more children are dying. He urged everyone to be aware of the use of antibiotics. Chauddagram Upazila Health Officer Dr. Rashid Ahmed Chowdhury said that children suspected of measles are being treated in the hospital every day.
