Former Information and Communication Technology (ICT) State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak’s lawyer Tariqul Islam has claimed that two bones in his neck and three bones in his waist were dislocated in the prison van accident. He told reporters on Tuesday (May 12), “We requested an MRI after the prison van accident. Then, on the instructions of the prison authorities, an MRI of the former State Minister Palak was done at the PG Hospital. Today, we received the MRI report.” Tariqul said that the report showed that three bones in Palak’s waist, L-2, L-3 and L-4 respectively, were dislocated. In addition, problems were found in two bones in his neck. Out of these, one between C5-C6 in the neck and a problem was found in the disc between C6-C7. On April 28, another lawyer of Palak, Farzana Yasmin Rakhi, claimed that Junaid Ahmed Palak was present in a case at the International Crimes Tribunal on April 19. After the hearing, another car hit the prison van on the way to the prison. He fell inside the prison van and injured his neck. Palak wants to get an MRI. He has asked to apply to the court for this.
\nAfter this statement was published in the media, AIG (Development and Media) of the Prisons Department Jannat-ul Farhad claimed in a statement that the prison van was not involved in any accident. He said that day, “The real issue is that on April 19, when the prison van was coming down from the Postgola Bridge, it braked hard and Junaid Ahmed Palak, one of the four division prisoners inside, could not control himself and collided with another prisoner, Fazle Karim Chowdhury. As a result, he suffered ‘minor pain’ in his neck. Necessary tests, including an MRI, have been done in this regard. No one was injured.”
\nPalak’s lawyer Tariqul said on Tuesday that Junaid Ahmed Palak is already sick. I met him in the prison last Saturday. He is unable to move his neck. Although the neck and waist bones were removed, no medical treatment is being taken. We will appeal to the court for his treatment. Palak was arrested on August 15, 2024, after the fall of the autocratic Awami League government. He was then remanded and interrogated in various murder and attempt to murder cases.
