National Citizen Party chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari has expressed concern over the new barbed wire fence and border killings on the India-Bangladesh border in a Facebook status. He posted it on his verified page on Monday (May 11). Patwari wrote, \u201cThe recent initiative to allocate land for new barbed wire and build a dividing wall on the India-Bangladesh border has created new concerns not only about the relations between the two countries, but also about the future of the entire South Asia.\u201d
\nHe referred to the border as \u201cnot just a line on a map, but a matter related to human life, human rights and family ties.\u201d He has raised the killing of unarmed Bangladeshi citizens over the years as a question of human conscience. Patwari further wrote, \u201cWe believe that in a civilized world, border management is not done through fear, bullets and dividing walls; it should be guided by mutual respect, human values \u200b\u200band responsible diplomacy.\u201d
\nRecalling the centuries-old history, culture and human relations between the people of Bangladesh and India, he said, \u201cNo action is desirable that creates distrust and distance between the people of the two countries.\u201d Making a strong appeal to the Bangladesh government, Patwari said, \u201cEffective diplomatic action should be taken regarding the killings and human rights violations on the border and the issue should be raised strongly in the international arena.\u201d
\nAt the end of the status, Patwari wrote, \u201cToday, South Asia needs solidarity, not conflict; cooperation, not walls; trust, not fear.
