The Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, Aminul Islam, said that the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered the law enforcement forces to use ‘lethal weapons’ to suppress the July-August movement. He made the remarks in the press conference room of his office on Sunday (May 10). On this day, the tribunal ordered the framing of formal charges against 28 people in a case of crimes against humanity in the killing of 9 people in the capital’s Mohammadpur.
\nThe Chief Prosecutor said, ‘I have ordered, I have openly ordered. Now, let’s use lethal weapons, wherever possible, we will shoot directly. Such an order came up in a conversation between Sheikh Hasina and the then Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.’ Such an order by Sheikh Hasina as the head of the government was inhuman and horrific. As a result, the trend of indiscriminate firing on students and the public increased across the country and thousands of people were killed. He said that on July 18 and 19, 2024, indiscriminate firing was carried out on students and the public using drones and helicopters in the Mohammadpur area. Many people were injured in this. The most emotional place is where Fayaz was brutally killed. The whole of Bangladesh was emotional about that murder. He further said that in this Mohammadpur case, allegations of higher command responsibility, personal responsibility and target killing have been found. The tribunal has framed charges in this case.
