Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said on Wednesday (May 6) that the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been instructed to be alert at the border to prevent any possible infiltration from India after the BJP’s victory in the West Bengal assembly elections.
\nHe made the remarks while talking to reporters after the third session of the fourth and final day of the District Commissioners’ Conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital. Responding to a question on whether the infiltration of Muslims into Bangladesh could increase after the BJP’s victory in West Bengal, the minister said the government has already taken precautionary measures.
\n“We have instructed the BGB to be alert at the border. Although we do not see any such possibility, we have taken precautions in advance so that we can deal with the situation if it arises.” Asked about the instructions given to the district commissioners to maintain law and order, Salahuddin Ahmed said it is part of their routine duties.
\n\u201cMaintaining law and order is one of their main responsibilities. In this regard, the police, district administration and judiciary work in coordination. It is not a matter of any specific directive, but rather a matter of ensuring effective cooperation among themselves,\u201d he said.
\nThe minister also said that the ongoing campaign against drugs and illegal weapons will continue with a zero-tolerance policy. \u201cDrugs and online gambling are serious threats. If these are not controlled, social stability will be disrupted.\u201d
\nRegarding online gambling apps, Salauddin Ahmed said that relevant agencies including Bangladesh Bank and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police are taking action. \u201cAs we move towards a technology-based world, the nature of crimes is also changing. We are planning to enact necessary laws to address these challenges. A committee has already been formed.\u201d
\nThe minister also said that authorities are trying to shut down illegal websites and platforms as much as possible. \u201cOnline gambling, drugs and related crimes are now among our top priorities and we are determined to suppress them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
