After four days of strong room surveillance and various exit polls, the counting of votes for the West Bengal Assembly elections has finally begun at 8 am local time today, Monday (May 4). As always, all eyes are on Bhavanipur, where Mamata Banerjee and Subhendu Adhikari are contesting.
\nAccording to the latest information, ruling Trinamool Congress leader Mamata is leading in Bhavanipur seat. Her rival, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Subhendu Adhikari, is trailing here. However, Mamata was trailing in Bhavanipur earlier too. Subhendu was ahead. After several rounds of counting, Mamata again took the lead.
\nMeanwhile, a tough fight is going on between the Trinamool Congress and the main opposition BJP. However, the BJP is slightly ahead. Any party needs to win 148 seats to form the government. There are a total of 294 seats in the West Bengal Assembly. However, the Election Commission has cancelled the polls in Falta constituency in South 24 Parganas district due to allegations of electoral crimes and irregularities.
