The National Freedom Fighters Parishad has strongly condemned and protested the statement made by ruling party MP Fazlur Rahman in the Great National Parliament. The organization claims that the language he used regarding the opposition leader and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is unparliamentary and his statement goes against the spirit of the Liberation War.
\nToday, Wednesday (April 29), the President of the National Freedom Fighters Parishad, Bir Muktijoddha Engineer Moslem Uddin, and Secretary General Bir Muktijoddha Md. Tajirul Islam, issued a joint statement expressing this protest. The statement includes the names of 70 brave freedom fighters.
\nThe statement said that while delivering a speech in the 13th National Parliament session on Tuesday, April 28, ruling party MP Fazlur Rahman used indecent and unparliamentary language regarding Jamaat-e-Islami and the opposition leader. MP Fazlur Rahman said, “No freedom fighter or family member of a freedom fighter can join Jamaat-e-Islami, nor can any martyr’s family member join Jamaat-e-Islami – this is a double crime.” “As a brave freedom fighter on the battlefield, we strongly condemn his statement.” Referring to the political rights of citizens, the council leaders said that as a free citizen, any person can associate himself with any political party and ideology that supports the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh. After independence, freedom fighters joined Awami League, Jasad, Jatiya Party or BNP according to their ideology. Similarly, many brave freedom fighters also joined Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami after starting political activities in 1979. The freedom fighters who opposed Indian rule emerged as a distinct force in the interest of protecting the country’s independence, and Jamaat-e-Islami supports that force. Criticizing the past politics of MP Fazlur Rahman, the statement said that Fazlur Rahman himself abandoned the policies of the past Awami League after changing parties many times and joined the BNP. According to Kishoreganj Company Commander Ayub Bin Haider, Fazlur Rahman did not take up any weapons after training and he was not a company commander in the great liberation war. Stating that the National Parliament is not a place for personal attacks or using hateful language against the party, the heroic freedom fighters said in the statement that the violent and offensive language used against the opposition leader in the Parliament is highly condemnable. In the statement, the leaders highlighted the current context of the country and said, let us avoid the mentality of divisive politics. Let us all try to build the country for future generations by reforming the constitution in the light of the principles of the July 24 Charter. The verdict of the referendum.
