There has been an extreme crisis in Boro paddy harvesting in Sunamganj haor area due to continuous rain. Although almost half of the paddy has been harvested so far, the rest of the paddy is still submerged in water. It is known that Boro paddy is cultivated on about 223,000 hectares of land in Sunamganj. Of this, paddy has been harvested on a little over one lakh hectares of land, but the rest of the crop is still lying in the field. Due to continuous rains in the last few days, farmers are not able to go down to the haor, as a result, there is a fear of spoiling the ripe paddy.
\nAccording to local sources, many farmers are trying to harvest paddy using polythene and banana rafts or boats. However, due to waterlogging, paddy collection is being hampered in most cases. Farmers also said that the harvested paddy is not being dried on time. As a result, seedlings have started growing inside the threshed paddy in many places. They said that in this situation, if farmers in the haor areas do not receive government assistance, they will have no way to turn around.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
