The nomination paper of Jamaat-e-Azam and NCP leader Monira Sharmin has been cancelled. After sorting the nomination papers at the Election House today, Thursday (April 23), Returning Officer Md. Moin Uddin Khan declared it invalid (cancelled). Monira Sharmin entered politics by joining Krishi Bank on November 11, 2023 and resigned in December 2025. According to the law, a person is considered ineligible for election if three years have not passed after resigning or retiring from government service.
\nThat is why her nomination paper has been declared invalid. Earlier, on Wednesday (April 22), the Returning Officer declared the nomination papers of 12 out of 13 candidates of Jamaat-e-Azam valid. And the selection process of Monira Sharmin’s nomination paper was suspended, ordering her to submit complete information related to her job by 12 noon today. Meanwhile, another candidate of the alliance, NCP leader Nusrat Tabassum, submitted her nomination papers 19 minutes late and the returning officer did not accept it. In this situation, Jamaat may lose one women’s seat in the National Assembly. That is, they may contest 12 fewer seats than the 13 seats allotted to them. Because the new schedule will see that seat being voted on as open. Since the voter turnout in the parliament is high, the BNP alliance may capture the seat.
