The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has started emergency activities to keep the country’s telecommunications services running amid the ongoing energy crisis. The agency has called a joint meeting today (April 22) to take coordinated steps in energy supply and power management to ensure uninterrupted network services.
\nCurrently, telecom towers and network servers are becoming inoperative due to shortage of adequate fuel oil supply and frequent power outages. This is disrupting the country’s mobile network and internet services, which is directly affecting customer services.
\nMobile network operators (MNOs) and tower infrastructure management companies have already expressed deep concern over this issue. In such a situation, BTRC has taken a coordinated initiative with relevant organizations from the government and private sectors to ensure energy and power supply in the telecommunications sector. Since the impact of the global energy crisis is also being felt in Bangladesh, initiatives have been taken to ensure energy supply on a priority basis to keep mobile networks, data centers and core network sites running.
\nThe first joint meeting on ensuring fuel supply will be held at the BTRC office in Agargaon in the capital at 2:30 pm today.
