Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that cases have been filed against all those who fled with money from banks and the government has appointed a professional recovery agency to recover the money. He made it clear that there is no room for compromise with defaulters. The Finance Minister said this in response to a supplementary question by MP Hasnat Abdullah during the Question and Answer Session of the Jatiya Sangsad today (April 21). Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram presided over the session.
\nIn his question, Hasnat Abdullah said in the session that S Alam Group alone is Tk 80,000 crore defaulter and Janata Bank’s Beximco Group is Tk 25,000 crore defaulter. Is there any special plan in the current fiscal year to recover this debt? Besides, has any attempt been made to restructure S Alam Group without making them repay the debt or has any compromise been made with them?
\nThe Finance Minister said that there is no room for compromise with anyone in BNP’s politics and economic activities. Every time BNP came to power in the past, no question was raised about financial discipline. There was no question about collective strategy or stock market looting. So I assure you that there is no room for compromise in BNP’s economic plan.
\nExpressing a strict stance on loan defaulters, the Minister said that cases have been filed against all those who have taken money from banks or fled abroad and it is being monitored regularly. We have appointed professional institutions outside the country to recover this money. He further said that on the one hand, G-2-G (government-to-government) discussions are going on to recover the money, while on the other hand, private recovery institutions are also working.
