Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s day during his visit to his ancestral district Bogra was filled with traditional food on one hand and lively crowds on the other. The Prime Minister arrived on Monday (April 20) afternoon and attended a luncheon organized at the Bogra Circuit House.
\nSome special dishes of Bogra were served at the banquet, which was organized in a combination of local traditions and tastes. District Administration NDC Rashidul Islam said that the menu prepared under the supervision of Dhaka Tourism Motel’s chef Liaquat Ali included Nazirshal Rice, Pabda and Horn Fish Do-Peyaja, Potasi Fish Chacchi and Desi Chicken Pad. The last part of the meal was served with traditional potato ghat and white and sweet curd, which also attracted the guests. Sources said that the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction after tasting these local dishes and ended the luncheon with satisfaction.
\nEarlier, the Prime Minister participated in the inaugural ceremony of the family card distribution program organized at the Bagbari Shaheed Zia Degree College ground in Gabtoli Upazila. There was humor in her simple and fluent speech, which immediately enlivened the public meeting.
\nAt one point in the speech, when a slight noise started among the audience, she took the microphone and said, “Hey brother, you have to be quiet. Otherwise, if you speak, I will leave.” Her comment caused laughter in the meeting venue. Later, she said in a homely tone, “I am hungry. I have come to my father’s house, will you not give me food? I have not eaten yet, I have not even prayed. There are more public meetings ahead, more programs. Then I have to return to Dhaka again.”
\nThe crowd responded to the Prime Minister’s sincere and spontaneous remarks with applause. Many people positively accepted her simple behavior. Her wife Zubaida Rahman was present at the event. She was seen enjoying her husband’s humor in the speech. A joyful atmosphere was also observed among the other guests present on the stage.
\nDuring the speech, when someone from the audience requested the Prime Minister to give a long speech, he replied with a smile, \u201cThat is not possible. I will come again.\u201d At the end of the program, food assistance was provided to the local needy and helpless people through the distribution of family cards.
