Tensions have risen again over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy supply route. Tehran has said the strait will not be fully opened until the US lifts its naval blockade of Iranian ports. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibof said in a televised address that while there has been some progress in ongoing talks with Washington, there are still major differences. He added that it will take more time to reach a final agreement.
\nOn the other hand, US President Donald Trump said that “very good talks” are underway with Iran. However, he warned Tehran not to try to pressure the US on the Strait of Hormuz issue. Last Friday, Iran temporarily opened the strait, allowing some oil and gas ships to pass through, bringing some relief to global markets.
\nHowever, due to security concerns and the US announcement that it would maintain the blockade, Tehran later decided to restrict traffic in the strait again. Iran has warned that if the blockade is not lifted, shipping in the Strait of Hormuz will be restricted. Any attempt by a ship to pass through the route without permission will be considered cooperation with the enemy and necessary measures will be taken.
\nIn addition, Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya military headquarters said that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz will remain strictly controlled and unchanged until the US lifts the ban on the free movement of Iranian ships. Meanwhile, Egypt and Pakistan have expressed hope for a resolution of the crisis through diplomatic initiatives. However, the situation remains uncertain due to disagreements on various issues, including the uranium issue.<\/p>\n
