The High Commission of Rwanda in India, in partnership with the United Nations in India, commemorated the 32nd anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda at Bharat Mandapam on Tuesday.
\nThe event, titled Kwibuka32, featured morning and evening sessions attended by diplomats, government officials, students, and members of civil society. Around 450 students participated in a morning exhibition showcasing artworks promoting peace, unity, and remembrance.
\nSpeaking at the event, Jacqueline Mukangira, Rwanda\u2019s High Commissioner to India, highlighted Rwanda\u2019s journey of unity, reconciliation, and development over the past three decades. Darrin Farrant of the United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan read the UN Secretary-General\u2019s message marking the International Day of Reflection.
\nThe evening session drew more than 650 attendees. Keynote speaker Kevin Kelly, Ambassador of Ireland to India, praised Rwanda\u2019s resilience and transformation following the genocide.
\nChief Guest Sudhakar Dalela of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India commended growing ties between India and Rwanda and acknowledged Rwanda\u2019s progress under President Paul Kagame. Stefan Priesner, UN Resident Coordinator in India, also addressed the gathering.
\nThe ceremony concluded with candle lighting, a minute of silence, a documentary screening, and cultural performances, reaffirming commitment to peace and remembrance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
