Two US guided missile destroyers have been forced to turn back after failing to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran says it was a US Navy propaganda operation that backfired on them.
\nIranian state media outlet Press TV claimed that Iran\u2019s coastal defenses were activated as soon as the two Earl Burke-class destroyers, the USS Michael Murphy and the USS Frank E. Peterson, reached the mouth of the Persian Gulf. Cruise missiles were aimed at the ships and attack drones were sent to follow them. \u201cThe two destroyers were just minutes away from being completely destroyed. The Iranian forces gave them exactly 30 minutes to change course. They immediately accepted it,\u201d a military-security source told Press TV.
\nPress TV also reported that the US Navy tried to avoid detection by using electronic warfare techniques. This included disabling the ship’s automatic identification system. But Iran’s radar and coastal surveillance systems were able to track the ships the entire time.
\nThe source said, “The IRGC Navy has full surveillance over the Strait of Hormuz. Attempts to conduct covert operations here are not only futile, but also dangerously provocative.” The IRGC also released a video of the US destroyer retreating.
