A one-minute symbolic \u2018blackout\u2019 program will be observed across the country tomorrow, Wednesday (March 25) to commemorate the brutal massacre by Pakistani forces on March 25, 1971. The instructions for the program were issued in a government information bulletin this Tuesday (March 24) morning.
\nIt said that a symbolic blackout will be observed nationwide from 10:30 pm to 10:31 pm on March 25. However, areas under KPI, emergency service centers and foreign embassies in Bangladesh will be exempted from the program. This symbolic darkness on March 25 will be observed as a humble tribute to the martyrs of that dark night of 1971 and as an expression of national unity against the brutal massacre by Pakistani forces.
\nMeanwhile, another information report states that no lighting will be done in important government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings and institutions on the night of March 25 under any circumstances to mark the ‘March 25 Genocide Day 2026’.
\nKeeping in mind the energy crisis, no lighting will be done nationwide on March 26, the great independence and national day, to reduce poverty, said Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed. He said this at a briefing to journalists after a preparatory meeting on the occasion of the celebration of the great independence and national day at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat on March 8.
\nIt is worth noting that on the night of March 25, 1971, the Pakistani army carried out a massive genocide in Dhaka through a barbaric military operation called ‘Operation Searchlight’.
