A Dhaka University student has been allegedly beaten up several times by the leaders and activists of the NCP student organization Jatiya Chhatra Shakti and handed over to the police. The incident took place during Sehri early on Monday (March 9). The victim, Rahid Khan Pavel, is a student of the Philosophy Department of Dhaka University for the 2020-21 academic year.
\nHe said, I went to BUET’s Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall for Sehri. Hasib, Shuvo, Saifullah, Mohiuddin and Abrar were also eating there. About 20-25 people led by them beat me up for two to two and a half hours without any reason.
\nPavel said, “If I am guilty, then I should be handed over to the police – I told them. But they did not listen to me.”
\nPavel also said that they beat me up from there and then brought me to Palashi and beat me up again. From there, they brought me to the VC premises on a bike and beat me. Later, when my condition worsened, they dropped me at Shahbagh police station. From there, the police arrested me. They beat me up by calling me Chhatra League. I have never been in any organization. I have no position.
\nPavel also alleged that after beating me, they took away my mobile, wallet and bike keys.
\nAmong those he has alleged of beating are Saifullah, the leader of the Dhaka University branch of the National Student Union, Hasib Al Islam, the leader of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Sardar Nadeem Mohammad Shuvo, Mohammad Mohiuddin and Abrar.
\nHe called Saifullah, the organizing secretary of the Student Union and Hasib Al Islam, the leader of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, to talk about the complaint, but they did not pick up.
\nShahbagh police station OC (Investigation) Asaduzzaman said, “Today, during Sehri, the leaders and activists of the Student Union handed him (Pavel) over to the police. Now he is in our custody.” His physical condition is bad, so he is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College. Let him recover first, then we will decide on his matter.
\nAsked whether the university administration will take any action in this incident, Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed said, “We have not received any complaint in this regard. However, after learning about this incident, I have requested Shahbagh Police Station to provide treatment to the boy. We are keeping an eye on him.
