Ukraine has sent a team of drone interceptors and experts to protect US military bases in Jordan from drone attacks.
\nUkrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made the sensational announcement in an interview published in the New York Times on Monday (March 9). Kiev has taken the step in response to a direct request from the United States to counter the growing airspace threat in the Middle East.
\nPresident Zelensky said that Washington requested assistance last Thursday (March 5) and a team of Ukrainian experts left for their destination on Friday (March 6), just one day after that. The team is expected to arrive in the Middle East very soon.
\nThe unique experience that Ukraine has gained over the past few years in dealing with various drones, including the Iranian Shahed drone, in the war against Russia is now being used to protect allied countries.
\nThe move marks a new phase of military cooperation between the two countries since President Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky met in Florida in December last year. The Ukrainian assistance is expected to ensure the security of US troops stationed in Jordan and further strengthen strategic ties between Kiev and Washington.
