National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam has commented that the legality of the referendum is being questioned in court. He said this at the NCP’s divisional iftar mahfil in Mogaltuli, Comilla on Tuesday (March 3).
\nNahid Islam said, “If the people’s verdict is taken to court, we will also have to take to the streets. The matter is clear, we do not want to raise slogans like in July, not in the High Court, not on the streets. Do not force us to raise these slogans. All reforms must be implemented according to the referendum verdict. Do not question the people’s verdict in the court.”
\nHe also said, “If we want to have relations with India, we will first consider the July genocide trial, Sheikh Hasina’s trial and sending Osman Hadi’s killers to Bangladesh. If Sheikh Hasina is not sent back, if Hadi’s killers are not sent back, there will be no good relations with India.”
\nAt the same event, the party’s member secretary Akhtar Hossain said that freedom of rumor is being practiced in the name of freedom of the press. Some misleading media are spreading confusion about Dr. Muhammad Yunus. We want the media to publish accurate and confusion-free news. He also called on BNP members of parliament to take an oath to implement constitutional reforms.
\nThe party’s chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari said, “As long as we are alive, we will make graves for corruption, extortion and terrorism. We will call on the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to speed up the trial of Sharif Osman Hadi’s murder. Otherwise, we will not say like you – movement after Eid. If we do movement, then we will come back with the trial of Hadi’s murder.”
\nAlso, spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan said, “Yes” won the referendum with 70% votes. A police-robbery game is going on about reforms. If we see that the July Charter is not being implemented – then we will take to the streets again.
