In order to ensure public health protection and food safety, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority has banned the import of chicken and eggs from 40 countries, including Bangladesh. In addition, Gulf News reported that restrictions have been imposed on partial imports from certain regions of 16 countries.
\nThe Saudi authorities said that the list of these countries will be regularly reviewed based on the global health situation and updated information on the pandemic. According to Gulf News, some of these 40 countries have been banned since 2004; some more countries have been added to the list based on risk assessments and international reports. Special attention has been paid to the high incidence of bird flu.
\nIn addition to Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia will not accept chicken and eggs from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Germany, Indonesia, Iran, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Taiwan, Djibouti, South Africa, China, Iraq, Ghana, Palestine, Vietnam, Cambodia, Kazakhstan, Cameroon, South Korea, North Korea, Laos, Libya, Myanmar, United Kingdom, Egypt, Mexico, Mongolia, Nepal, Niger, Nigeria, India, Hong Kong, Japan, Burkina Faso, Sudan, Serbia, Slovenia, Ivory Coast and Montenegro.
\nIn addition, the ban will also apply to partial imports from Australia, the United States, Italy, Belgium, Bhutan, Poland, Togo, Denmark, Romania, Zimbabwe, France, the Philippines, Canada, Malaysia, Austria and some states or cities in the DR Congo.
\nHowever, this temporary ban does not apply to processed poultry and related products that meet approved health and safety standards. Such products must be accompanied by an official certificate stating that the processing has completely eliminated bird flu and Newcastle disease viruses.
