With the announcement of a four-day holiday for the 13th National Parliament election, people have flocked to the highways in the industrial area of \u200b\u200bGazipur to return home. As a result, a 50-kilometer long traffic jam has been created on the Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Mymensingh highways. On this occasion, transport officials have been accused of charging triple the fare. Long traffic jams were seen on the Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Mymensingh highways this Tuesday (February 10) morning.
\nThere is a traffic jam on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway from Tongi College Gate to Maona Crossroad and from Bhogra area of \u200b\u200bGazipur to Kaliakoir bypass on the Dhaka-Tangail highway. Taking advantage of the traffic jam, various transports are charging extra fares. The fare is being asked from 500 taka to 1200 to 1500 taka. It is learned that passengers in Gazipur’s Chandana Chowrasta and Maona areas were angry and blocked the road for a while.
\nAfter more than 400 industries and factories in different areas of Gazipur were declared closed from Monday afternoon (February 9), the crowd of people returning home started increasing from the evening. The Chandra Bus Terminal area, the gateway to 26 districts in the northern part of the country, was overflowing with passengers. People who had been waiting for vehicles all night were rushing to their destinations in various vehicles including buses, trucks, pickups since this morning. Law enforcement agencies have continued their activities in Gazipur’s Chandra Bus Terminal, Chandana Chowrasta and Bhogra Bypass areas to resolve traffic congestion.
\nThe OC of Gazipur’s Naojor Highway Police Station said that industries and factories have been closed on the occasion of the elections. As a result, traffic jams have been created on the highway. Our police members are working to keep the highway normal. However, in some places, passengers are protesting due to high fares. We are also looking into the issue of rent.
