Voting has begun in Japan for national elections. Voters began voting at 8 am local time today (February 8). 1,284 candidates are competing for 465 seats in the lower house of parliament. According to the BBC, Prime Minister Sanai Takaichi dissolved the country’s parliament on January 23 of this year. At that time, he announced the date of the snap election today, February 8. It is believed that he went for this snap election to capitalize on his personal popularity and bring victory to the ruling party.
