Jayma Rahman, daughter of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, has urged political parties to take responsibility for women’s safety. She made the remarks at a seminar organized at the BISS Conference Room in the capital on Sunday (February 8).
\nCalling for increased participation of women in policy-making, Jayma said, “We need to create a pipeline from student leadership to local government. If we cannot maintain this, there will be no opportunities. As a result, we will not be able to provide opportunities to good leaders. Therefore, we need to maintain it along with creating continuity.”
\nShe said, “If no one has political or civic responsibilities, how will they understand that they should follow this path? Like the shade of a palm tree, if there is no one, how will the small tree grow again? We see that there are many opportunities for men, but women are not given the same. Not all boys will do it, women also need to have connections.”
\nJayma Rahman said, “Economy is a big issue in politics. More opportunities need to be provided to eliminate economic inequality.” If women leaders are given that opportunity, the reasons why women cannot participate in politics will be reduced.
\nUrging the youth to utilize their talents, she said, “We want to build a different kind of country. We need to change our thinking. Political parties must take responsibility for the safety of women.”
\nEmphasizing the issue of safety, she said, “Every political party should have its own code of conduct, so that if there is any kind of harassment against women leaders or workers, the party takes responsibility and stands by them.” Jayma Rahman also commented that it is possible to build a just state by working together with the society, teachers, students and freedom fighters.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
