At least 24 displaced civilians have been killed in a drone strike by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary force in North Kordofan state, Sudan, according to the Sudan Doctors Network. Eight of the dead were children, two of whom were infants. The attack targeted a vehicle carrying a family fleeing fighting in the Dubekar area near the city of Rahad.
\nThe incident follows a series of drone strikes targeting World Food Programme (WFP) aid convoys and fuel tankers in various areas of North Kordofan on Friday (February 6). One person was killed and several others were injured in the attacks.
\nThe North Kordofan state government strongly condemned the heinous attacks and called on the United Nations and the international community to impose strict international sanctions on the RSF leadership.
\nThe Sudan Doctors Network called the incident a \u201cgross violation of international humanitarian law\u201d and a \u201cwar crime.\u201d They called for an impartial investigation into the attack and stronger international action to protect aid workers and humanitarian facilities.
\nThe United Nations and the United States also condemned the incident, saying that the destruction of food aid for famine-stricken people and the targeting of civilians would not be tolerated.
\nSudan is currently going through the worst crisis in its history. Thousands of people have been killed and nearly 11 million displaced in the nearly three-year conflict between the army and the RSF.
\nAccording to the United Nations, more than 20 million people in Sudan are now facing an acute food crisis and a large part of the country is on the brink of famine.
