Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has no women candidate in the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections. Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher spoke in this regard. He said, ‘Although we are not giving any direct women candidate this time, our alliance has a woman candidate.’ He said this while talking to reporters on the sidelines of the party’s policy summit held at a hotel in the capital today (January 20).
\nRegarding the lack of Jamaat’s women candidates in the elections, Taher said, ‘In the consensus commission that we had and the discussions on reforms there, one issue was coming up, which was the issue of giving direct elections to women. It has been decided to keep women from 5 percent to 15 percent.’ He said, ‘Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has agreed with this decision. So if it becomes a law, then we have agreed to give direct elections to women and we will be obliged to give it.’
\nRegarding the preparations for the elections, Dr. Taher said, ‘We are completely ready. If Jamaat-e-Islami comes to power, it is not just a matter of making ministers from the party, we will make ministers from the people of Bangladesh. There are people in Bangladesh who can be the finance minister. There are people who can be the finance and health ministers of Bangladesh. So if we consider all Bangladeshis, will there be a shortage of people?\u2019
\nHe further said, \u2018I am presenting how we will build a corruption-free Bangladesh, what will be the foreign policy, what will be the main projects of our small and large economy. Also, in terms of creating a safe environment for the people of this country, especially in terms of women\u2019s safety, how can we bring more foreign investment here, and the employment that exists in the country and abroad, the issue of employment abroad, we are trying to highlight it in different ways today.\u2019
\nRegarding the online election campaign, the Jamaat leader said, \u2018Online is a new strategy, which was not there before. So, we will try to reach the voters by following the online billboards approved by the RPA. However, our main goal is to communicate one by one.
