The Election Commission (EC) has become flexible for candidates with dual citizenship in the 13th National Parliament elections. In this regard, the organization has declared the nomination papers of all those who have applied to renounce the citizenship of the country concerned by depositing money as valid. The EC showed flexibility for candidates in the 13th National Parliament elections yesterday, Sunday (January 18).
\nOut of 23 candidates with complications related to dual citizenship, the nominations of two have been canceled, the verdict of one has been suspended and 20 have been allowed to participate in the elections.
\nThe candidacy of BNP candidate Abdul Gafur Bhuiyan from Comilla-10 constituency has been canceled due to his absence in the hearing related to dual citizenship. And the decision regarding the candidacy of BNP candidate Kazi Shah Mofazzel Hossain Kaykobad from Comilla-3 constituency has been suspended to verify the issue of renouncing Turkish citizenship. In this case, the candidacy is more likely to be upheld.
\nThose who are not prevented from participating in the elections due to complications related to dual citizenship are: Mohammad Nazrul Islam from Jamaat-1 constituency, AKM Kamruzzaman from BNP in Dinajpur-5 constituency, Moniruzzaman from BNP in Satkhira-4, Shama Obaid from BNP in Faridpur-2, Tahir Raihan from BNP in Sunamganj-2, Shawkatul Islam from BNP in Moulvibazar-2, Sujat Mia from Habiganj-1, Junaid Hasan from Jamaat-3, Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan from Brahmanbaria-4, Abdul Awal Mintu from Feni-3, Zahirul Islam from Noakhali-1, Jatiya Party Md. Manjum Ali, Chapainawabganj-1 JPA Khorshed Alam, Natore-1 Khelafat Majlish Azadul Haque, Jessore-2 Jamaat Moslem Uddin Farid, Chattogram-9 Jamaat AK Fazlul Haque, Sherpur-2 BNP’s Fahim, Chattogram-3 Islami Andolan Bangladesh Amjad Hossain, Kurigram-3 Jamaat Mahbub Alam Saleh, Manikganj-3 BNP’s Afroza Khanam Rita and an independent candidate are in Sunamganj-3 constituency. In addition, the candidacy of BNP candidate Sarwar Alamgir from Chattogram-2 constituency was also cancelled yesterday due to loan default. Yesterday, a hearing of 63 people was held in two phases on the last day of the hearing. In this, 23 applications were approved. 21 against the cancellation of nomination papers, two against the acceptance of nomination papers and 35 appeals were rejected. Of which, the application for acceptance of nomination papers of 16 people was rejected.
