A hearing will be held today on the framing of charges against Sajib Wazed Joy and Junaid Ahmed Palak for the July-August genocide by shutting down the internet. A judicial panel led by International Crimes Tribunal-1 Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumdar will hold the hearing today (January 11).
\nEarlier, the tribunal was scheduled to hold a hearing on the framing of charges in the case last Wednesday. However, the hearing was postponed until today as a letter regarding the appointment of a state-appointed lawyer for the fugitive accused Sajib Wazed Joy was not issued. Later, he was appointed by the state.
\nAccording to the prosecution’s allegations, Joy and Palak were involved in crimes against humanity by shutting down internet services, concealing information about the genocide, instigating repression of protesters, conspiring and directly participating in it.
\nEarlier, when the formal complaint of the case was submitted to the tribunal on December 4, the International Crimes Tribunal-1 issued arrest warrants against Sajib Wazed Joy and Junaid Ahmed Palak on the same day. It is worth noting that Sajib Wazed Joy was the ICT advisor to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In July-August 2024, the ICT Ministry tried to hide information about the genocide from the world by shutting down the internet. Joy was mentioned as the main planner of which. And Palak implemented this plan from Bangladesh. As a result, a case of crimes against humanity was filed against them in the tribunal on charges of inciting genocide by shutting down internet services.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
