It seems that the cold is not abating in the northern district of Naogaon. As the day progresses, the intensity of the cold is increasing in this district. The mercury is fluctuating between 9 and 13 degrees Celsius. Public life has been disrupted by the severe cold. Today, Monday (January 5), the Badalgachhi Agricultural Meteorological Observatory recorded the lowest temperature in Naogaon district at 9 am at 10.7 degrees Celsius. Earlier, the temperature was recorded at 9 degrees Celsius last Saturday. This was the lowest temperature of this season in Naogaon and the lowest temperature in the country.
\nLocals said that dense fog and quite cold are felt since evening. The roadside areas are covered in fog all night. As soon as the sun rises in the morning, the feeling of cold decreases slightly. The sun has not been seen since this morning. Although the sun rises occasionally in the afternoon, the cold wind has created chaos in public life.
\nJoynal Abedin of Hapania area of \u200b\u200bSadar Uplore said, “The intensity of the winter is a little higher because there is no sunshine during the day. But in the evening, you have to wear winter clothes. There is no other option than 2\/3 layers of blankets to sleep.” Sobhan, a van driver from Barunkandi area, said, “It becomes difficult to drive rickshaws due to cold wind and cold after evening. It becomes difficult to drive vans from afternoon to morning. There are no passengers in the morning.”
\nDr. Abu Jar Gaffar, Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Naogaon 250-bed hospital, said that hundreds of patients, including children, middle-aged and elderly, have been treated for cold-related diseases in the last few days. Till this morning, about two hundred patients suffering from pneumonia, diarrhea, asthma, respiratory problems and TOPD have been admitted to the hospital. The hospital authorities are continuing their medical services to ensure their speedy recovery. As the intensity of the winter in Naogaon has increased, the district administration has started distributing winter clothes among the helpless poor and daily wage workers.
\nNaogaon District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md. Ashekur Rahman said that six lakh taka has already been distributed through the Upazila Executive Officers for the distribution of warm clothes among the helpless and distressed daily wage workers in each upazila. A total of 66 lakh taka has been allocated in 11 upazilas of the district so far. In addition, 30,600 pieces of blankets have been allocated to the district from the Chief Advisor’s Relief Fund, the Ministry of Disaster Management and the Zilla Parishad.
