In 2025, 9,111 people were killed in 6,729 road accidents in the country. 14,812 people were injured. The organization’s Secretary General Md. Mozammel Haque Chowdhury gave this information at a press conference organized by Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Sunday (January 4). Like every year, this report has been prepared by observing the news published in the media.
\nThe organization said that in 2025, 9,111 people were killed in 6,729 road accidents. 14,812 people were injured. In addition, 485 people were killed and 145 were injured in 513 rail accidents. And 158 people died in boat accidents.
\nIn 2,493 motorcycle accidents, 2,983 people were killed and 2,219 were injured. Which is 37.04 percent of the total accidents, 38.46 percent of the deaths and 14.98 percent of the injuries. A total of 7,369 accidents on roads, railways and waterways killed 9,754 people and injured 15,096.
\nBangladesh Passenger Welfare Association Secretary General Md. Mozammel Haque Chowdhury said that the annual financial loss in all these accidents is more than Tk 60,000 crore. To reduce the loss of lives and damage in such horrific accidents, all political parties participating in the national elections should have a commitment to improve road safety and public transport in their election manifestos.
\nThe report found that 9,111 people were killed and 14,812 injured in 6,729 road accidents in the outgoing year 2025. Compared to 2024, road accidents increased by 6.94 percent, deaths by 5.79 percent and injuries by 14.87 percent in 2025.
\nIn 2025, 190 law enforcement officers, 1,691 drivers, 1,216 pedestrians, 551 transport workers, 832 students, 129 teachers, 1,056 women, 622 children, 69 journalists, 15 doctors, 11 freedom fighters, 5 lawyers, 9 engineers and 141 leaders and activists of various political parties were killed in road accidents.
