West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has attacked Union Home Minister Amit Shah in strong terms without naming names on infiltration, border security, BSF and voter list revision. Today, Tuesday (December 30), she raised several allegations about the role of the central government and the BJP from a public meeting in Bankura.
\nThis afternoon, at a public meeting organized in Barajora assembly constituency in Bankura, the Chief Minister said in a warning tone, ‘If I had wanted, I would not have let you move even a step forward.’ Although she did not name anyone, according to political circles, this comment was directly targeted at Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
\nEarlier on the same day, at a press conference in Kolkata, Amit Shah alleged that the West Bengal government is not giving land to the BSF to set up a barbed wire fence along the border. She claimed that this is why infiltration through the border is increasing and this issue is related to the security of not only the state but the entire country.
\nIn response to this statement, Mamata Banerjee raised a question from the Bankura meeting, how can a railway line or coal project be implemented if the state government does not provide land. She said that land has been provided as per the rules for development projects, but false allegations are being made against the state for political purposes. The Chief Minister also questioned the role of the Centre in the infiltration issue. She said, “Does infiltration happen only in Bengal? Not in Kashmir?” She also raised the issue of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and asked what the Centre was doing when such incidents happened.
\nThe Chief Minister also made serious allegations about the revision of the voter list. She claimed that the names of about 54 lakh people have been removed from the voter list through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process using artificial intelligence or AI. She also alleged that the BJP’s IT cell staff is working inside the Election Commission office.
\nMamata Banerjee claimed that names are being removed from the voter list even if there is a slight mistake in the English spelling of the name. As a result, many common people are at risk of losing their voting rights, he added. During his state visit today, Amit Shah had promised to build a ‘dream Bengal’. In response, the Chief Minister said, ‘Whenever the votes come, they talk about building a golden Bengal. But this is not a golden Bengal, they want to build a Bengal of destruction.’
\nThe Chief Minister also alleged that Bengali speakers are being harassed in BJP-ruled states. According to her, migrant workers are being harassed by being labelled as ‘Bangladeshi’ for speaking Bengali. According to Mamata Banerjee, such behavior is not only an insult to the people of Bengal, but also against the Constitution and pluralistic character of India.
